Hiroshi est un jeune terrien n'ayant ni famille, ni ami. Pour survivre, il a mené une existence pénible et s'est fait exploiter par des employeurs sans scrupules. Pour fuir cette situation, il s'embarque clandestinement sur un cargo spatial. Malheureusement pendant le trajet, son vaiseau est attaqué par les troupes d'Alfress de la Reine Baralurda. Le Queen Emeraldas s'interpose et sauve le cargo. Hiroshi fait ensuite connaissance avec son capitaine, Emeraldas qui retrouve en lui des traits de caractère de son défunt amant Toshirô . Le jeune Hirsohi est justement à la recherche de Toshirô car il souhaiterait faire comme lui : Construire son propre vaisseau tout seul. Mais Hiroshi ne sait pas que Toshirô est mort, et Emeraldas n'aura pas le cœur de lui avouer.

GoLion's story starts in the year 1999, when the planet Altea is subdued and enslaved by the Galra Empire. Five space pilots return to Earth to find the planet annihilated by thermonuclear war. Eventually, the explorers are captured and enslaved, and forced to fight for their lives in Emperor Daibazaal's arena. The young pilots escape and eventually land on the planet Altea, where they discover the secret of the mighty sentient robot GoLion, the only weapon powerful enough to defeat Emperor Daibazaal's forces. Thousands of years ago, GoLion was once an arrogant robot who, after defeating several beastmen, tried to challenge a goddess to battle, but failed. To teach him humility, the goddess separated him into five pieces in the form of five lion robots that sailed through space and crash-landed on Altea to lay in wait for those who would one day reawaken him to fight evil once again.

In the year 2111, the solar system has been colonized. The colonized moons and planets are lawless and the police are helpless. In order to battle the evil within the solar system, Isaac Godonov creates J9, made up of himself, Blaster Kid, Stephen Bowie, and Angel Omachi. They are a team that will handle any missions the police will not with their robot Braiger... for a price. Meanwhile, the Nubia section of Earth has a plan to destroy Jupiter to create 30 more planets for human colonization. But this plan will result in the destruction of Earth.

The story is set 600 years after the destruction of Jupiter where the solar system was in a state of peace under the Bakufu government. However, the lawlessness of this new solar system prompts a man named Dan Condor to organize a new J9 team to fight against injustice. Equipped with Cosmobikes, they merge into a super robot named Baxingar.
