An armada of horned humanoid aliens known as Boazanians invade earth and launch their "beast fighters" all over the world, defeating most of the world's armed forces. Voltes V is a robot composed of five "Volt Machines", and each are themselves formidable weapons. Kokoro est une jeune fille qui porte le même nom que la bibliothèque dans laquelle elle travaille avec ses deux sœurs, Aruto et Iina. Très fière de sa nouvelle fonction, Kokoro s'acclimate à la vie de bibliothécaire et joint donc l'utile à l'agréable, sa passion étant la lecture. Seulement voilà, la bibliothèque est perdue dans la campagne au beau milieu d'une forêt. Le cadre y est certes paradisiaque (la verdure, le calme...) mais les clients se font rares, de plus en plus rares. Les trois sœurs doivent donc trouver un moyen de rentabiliser leur très grande bibliothèque. Nous suivons donc Kokoro et ses sœurs dans leur quotidien et leur gestion de leur petite affaire familiale.

Le célèbre samurai japonais, Yagyu Jubei, malgré tous ses talents, ne peut échapper à la mort et il demande donc à son disciple de lui trouver un successeur. Celui-ci recevra tout le pouvoir du légendaire Jubei grâce au lovely eyepatch. 300 ans plus tard, le disciple rencontre Jiyu Nanohana, une fille ordinaire qui vient juste d'arriver en ville. Natural disasters have devastated planet Zi, killing off almost all life. A thousand years later humans have gradually re-established civilization, salvaging ancient Zoids through diving and mining efforts. In a village whose most previous item is a giant sword which they worship as a holy symbol. A teenage boy discovers an ancient Liger-type Zoid while on a deep water salvage operation.
