En 1999, un vaisseau alien s'écarse sur l'île d'Atalie du Sud. L'humanité sait maintenant qu'elle n'est pas seule dans l'univers. 10 ans plus tard le vaisseau a été réparé et baptisé SDF-1 Macross. Néanmoins, le jour du lancement, les Zentradiens arrivent sur Terre, débutant ainsi le guerre entre l'UN Spacy et les Zentradien, guerre qui changera pour toujours l'histoire des 2 espèces.
